The High-pressure Local Water-based Mist Fire-Fighting System

1.Design basis
Design basis of the High-pressure Local Water-based Mist Fire-Fighting System (DHTW-HP-03A and DHTW-HP-06A) include:
(1) SOLAS commitment Reg. II-2/10.5.6 “fixed local fire-fighting system”.
(2) MSC/circ.913.
(3) MSC/circ.1165.


2. Abbreviation for the system
2.1 The working principle of the system
The High-pressure Local Water-based Mist Fire-Fighting System, its main working principle is:
By high pressure water flowing through, the atomization nozzles emit tiny mist particles, to control the fire at Machinery space of category A (oil fire). A typical system schematic diagram and electrical schematic diagram see the appendix.
The system have automatic or manual control mode. the alarm which issued by the fire detector beside the spray, is confirmed by the controller of the system, the mist will emit automatically; or manually by pushing down the button in the controller, then the pump and valves actuate automatically, and make the spay emitting tiny mist particles to control the fire.
2.2 The use of the system
Basing on the MSC/circ.913 and MSC/circ.1165,the system is designed for preventing Machinery space of category A from oil fire which happened on a running ship. So, the system are applied to engine room: cylinder head of main engine、top of generator、burner of boiler、burner of incinerator、room of oil purifier and so on.
2.3 Structure of system
The system structured by:

    1. High pressure mist spray of open type.
    2. Fire and smoke detector.
    3. Signal receiver、fire-fighting controller、manual controller、Extended display panel of fire.
    4. Pressure water supply unit.
    5. Electric control valve at jet point.
    6. Acousto-optic alarm.
    7. Pipelines and attachments.

For actual designing for ships, system designing should satisfy the ratified drawings requirement of the CCS plan approval centers. The pipelines、electric equipments、fire alarm system and all the other attachments should satisfy the requirements of CCS.

4. Introduction of system operating and working
On automatic mode, working process of system is as follow:

If the system did not give alarm, but there are necessary to start the system, manual button should be pushed down to actuate the system.

Stop the system: push down the button on the system controller or manual controller.
